Finalists announced for 2019 Leeds Sports Awards

The votes have been counted and the shortlists for the 2019 Leeds Sports Awards have now been revealed.
The 16th edition of the annual awards night will be held at the First Direct Arena on Thursday 28th February. Leeds' sporting heroes, both professional and amateur, will once again gather to celebrate the achievements of the city after a hugely successful year of sport.

Hosted by well-renowned BBC Sports reporter Tanya Arnold, the 2019 event promises to be the best yet, with record voting numbers and outstanding achievements at the Commonwealth Games proving to be just the start.

This years' finalists are from a variety of sports, from individual sports such as triathlon through to rugby league. As always, the Leeds Sports Awards also celebrates the younger generation with numerous worthy contenders in the Young Achievers category. There will also be recognition for the hardworking coaches and volunteers around the city as their efforts are testament to the success of the city's athletes and teams.

Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Rhinos Foundation will be well represented on the night, with the following all being named as finalists:
Adam Cuthbertson- Coach of the Year
Lois Forsell- Sportswoman of the Year
Jodie Boyd-Ward- Disability Sportswoman of the Year
James Simpson- Disability Sportsman of the Year
Corpus Christi Year 7 Girls Rugby- Young Sports Team of the Year
Nathan Collins- Young Disability Sportsman of the Year
Josh Butler- Young Disability Sportsman of the Year
Owen Lockwood- Young Disability Sportsman of the Year

Vice Chair of Sport Leeds, Sally Nickson commented, "The Leeds Sports Awards celebrate immense sporting talent across the city- from local athletes, clubs, coaches and volunteers, to Commonwealth Medalists and World Champions.

"This year has proven more challenging than ever to judge the finalists due to the level of talent and number of achievements across the city. We're looking forward to celebrating yet another year of success."
